Sunrise Movement’s statement in response to leading House Democrat Frank Pallone’s opposition to a select committee on climate change
“Frank Pallone calls himself a climate champion while taking $110,000 from fossil fuel PACs in 2018. Now he’s defending their interests by claiming Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s resolution for a House Select Committee For A Green New Deal is ‘not necessary’. Pallone’s words are ludicrous, especially when drought-induced wildfires have killed 59 people in California in November alone. Our very lives and the lives of those we love are at stake. How many more must die before Democratic leaders take the climate crisis as seriously as we do?
“Frank Pallone is concerned about holding onto his power and title, not about the future of our generation or human civilization. The latest UN climate report gives us 12 years to transform our economy or risk climate catastrophe. If he were serious about stopping climate change, he would give back his money from fossil fuel PACs and support the Select Committee for a Green New Deal, the only policy in history that rises to the scale of this crisis.”
