Sunrise endorses Summer Lee for Pennsylvania’s 12th
Summer Lee is a community organizer and State Representative in Pennsylvania, who is actively running on a Green New Deal. She comes from a city that has been overrun by big polluting corporations, and knows firsthand why we need bold climate action, and what it takes movement power to win.
In 2018, Sunrise endorsed Summer Lee for her State House race, and has been working with her closely ever since (even fighting alongside her to defeat fracking legislation and standing by her as she staged a sit-in to demand police accountability). Now the movement gets to see one of our own on her on the way to Congress.
We are so excited to endorse Summer as she builds a multiracial cross class movement to win this race, and to win a Green New Deal. She’s always believed in us, putting the working class, black and brown communities, and young people first, and we will have her back now to grow the list of Green New Deal organizers in Congress.
“In Congress I will fight for a Green New Deal to transition to a 100% clean and renewable energy economy. This includes ending fracking, which poses a disproportionate threat to communities like ours. The Green New Deal centers frontline and marginalized communities facing the brunt of environmental racism – communities with poisoned water, high rates of asthma, etc – communities like ours.”
